"Update - Summer Solstice" - Jen's First Quilt

Don agreed to we could share this photo of him with his amazing quilt his girlfriend Jen made for him.  Lucky fellow!

Wow, I'm sure it's safe to say first time customer Jen is definitely an over achiever (this said with awe)!  Believe it or not - this was Jen's very first quilt.  I KNOW!  WOW, eh!  Soooo beautifully done.  The pattern is "Summer Solstice" by Judy Niemeyer.

Jen made this for her boyfriend who will be using it in a traditional native ceremony.  I'm sure my daughter Tami can probably tell me more about what this would all entail.  Jen mentioned it involves wearing this quilt when spending time in the traditional native sweat lodge (hope I have the terminology correct)?

Full custom quilting on this beauty, using Dream Puff batting and an array of colorful polyester threads.

I'm Still Here and Working Away!

I know some of you are wondering where I've been and what I've been up to?  I even received a phone call from a friend wondering if I was OK because I haven't posted very much lately - LOL.  Rest assured everyone, I am just fine and believe it or not working away in the studio - as usual.  I have one custom quilt to post but will wait until the customer picks it up later today, so stay tuned.

Here is a bit of a tease as to what I'm working on now.  Love these wool wall quilts - so much fun to work on.  What a wonderful day to just look outside (winter is back in Calgary) and turn back to the machine and do what I love - quilt!

Beautiful Batik Quilt by Linda L

Linda made this lovely quilt using beautiful batavian batiks.  The pattern is a fairy simple pinwheel but the batik fabrics move this beauty from beautiful to awesome.  Great work Linda and yes!  - Linda is keeping this one for herself.

Freehand feather swirl quilting using Hobbs 80/20 batting and a gorgeous variegated rayon thread - Mirage by Wonderfil.

"Sprouts" - pieced by Susan L

What a fun quilt this is, and I love the name "Sprouts".  Susan is so up on all the new trends in quilting, the new fabric lines and always comes with a lovely new pattern for me to finish up for her. I learn so much from her.

Love all these modern quilts that are so trendy right now.   I'm sure when all the ladies come back from QuiltCon in Austin Texas February 19- 22 they will all be so inspired  - hope to see a whole lot more and hear all about the fun they had.

Freehand quilting - leaves and floral design.  100% cream cotton thread - Konfetti by Wonderfil.

"The Present" - pieced by Susan L

Susan not only does awesome piecing, she also has such a great knack for putting fabrics together.  This lovely quilt pattern has been around for a while but this it one of the nicest ones I've seen. Yes many times it's hard to tell which is the front, or the back - Susan does a wonderful job on her pieced backs as well.

Ukrainian Nesting Dolls - Place mats

Many of you know that I am from Ukrainian heritage.  Well my one granddaughter and son-in-law are Ukrainian dancing with a group here in Calgary call Trazub.  Each year they hold a party/fund raiser and this year I got my act together and make a set of place mats to be included in the silent auction.

I know, many of you will say hey, these are Russian nesting dolls - well guess what?  I made them and I can call them anything I want!  LOL

Wish us luck with the silent auction!  Oh I forgot to mention the embroidery designs are from a website JuJu Designs and they have some awesome designs.

Memory Quilt for Tanys in Medicine Hat

Last year I was asked to make a memory quilt for a lady in Medicine Hat - Bobbi-Jo.
Some of you may remember she chose the Paper Heart pattern by Tula Pink.  Well a few months ago Bobbi-Jo's sister Tanys asked that I make her a memory quilt as well.  All she had was a photo with appliqued hearts forming another heart.  This is my rendition of the photo and the finished quilt.

Quilts for Paige and Georgia

Customer Kathy and her husband Brian welcomed two beautiful angels into their life a few months back.  They are the most gorgeous twin girls I've ever seen.

I'm not sure where Kathy found time to make these adorable quilts for her girls but she did and aren't they awesome.

Freehand quilting using a different floral design on each.  Both have been quilted using Tutti cotton variegated thread by Wonderfil and Hobbs 80/20 batting.  The color shows grey but both quilts have a mauve ting to them.
